People might wonder. People might ask. Why are you doing this project? Well, I choose this project for all of the
fisherman out there.I am also a fisherman and I would also like to know what knots will hold my record fish on the hook. This question is worth asking because if you are a constant fisher, you would know if you have a trophy catch on, your worst fear is loosing that fish. I want to solve fisherman's problems of loosing fish.
Broad Question
What kinds of knots are best for the fishing line fishing?
Specific Question
What is the effect of different knots on a fishing line?
Hypothesis
I think the stronger knots will take more weight and pressure to break the line.

Variables
Independent Variable: Types of Knots
Dependent Variable: Breaking Strength
Variables That Need To Be Controlled: Same test line, Same amount of length, different environments, different temperatures, How to attach the line to the mechanism.
Vocabulary List That Needs Explanation
FORCE:
Strength or energy as an attribute of physical action or movement.
Knot: An object tied with string to make the line stronger.
General Plan
I will be taking a piece of 4 pound test line, tying a knot on the piece of line, then breaking the knot and see how much force(breaking strength)
Potential Problems And Solutions
P-The line snaps on the line not the knot.S- Redo until it works properly.
Safety Or Environmental Concerns
The line could snap and hit your body.

Background Research
Introduction
I am here to tell you a little about my Science Fair project that I have been working on for a few months. I am going to tell you about fishing line, knots, and scales. All three are things I have used during my project. Enjoy!
Fishing Line
Fishing line is made of nylon and fluorocarbon. Fishing line comes in different strengths and poundage's.
Fishing line is made to stand up to heavy weights and different fish types. If there were only one type of fishing line, the number of fish caught would be much less than it is now. Knots Knots are a tied piece of the line or rope. They help make the line stronger, or to make something stay together. Knots have been around for several hundreds of years. Even cavemen tied knots daily. There are fishing knots, tying knots, and many other kinds of knots. The history of knots is believed to be linked to fishing techniques and types of line or rope used. Scales
Scales are used for many helpful things, such as measuring weight. Scales measure in many different units such as pounds, ounces,
and grams. Scales come in many different sizes and ranges. I happened to use a multi use scale, that measured in pounds and ounces.
My scale has a hook on it that you hook onto an object and pull on the scale. This measures the force needed. Conclusion
I have had a good time doing this project and I hope this data will help out some fisherman out there. I want you to have a happy
fishing year. Good luck!

Detailed Procedure
I will take a piece of 4 pound test line.
Tie two knots around two different hooks
Use a pulling scale and pull until the knot breaks.
Read the weight on the scale.
Record the weight it took to break the fishing line.
Repeat ten times per knot.

Different Types of Fishing Knots
Data Analysis
My graph shows the minimum, the maximum, and the mean.
The Improved Clinch Knot is my strongest knot.
My Uni Knot was my weakest knot.
My data was mostly different from one another.
Conclusion: My data does support my hypothesis of "I think stronger knots will take more weight and pressure to break the line." I have done several trials of different kinds of knots and the improved clinch knot was the knot that held the most pressure.
Discussion
I have many trends in my data, and the big trend is that some of my knots are really good, and some
of my knots are not as good and could use improvement. The wet knots were definitely a lot more consistent.
My hypothesis supported my data. For scientists, I think my experiment could go further and I recommend
for this experiment to go further.
Benefit to Community and/or Science
My project benefits to the community because some people in my community are fisherman.
I don't believe my project will help science, but this is just me saying that.
Abstract
My experiment is about taking different fishing
knots and testing their strengths on fishing line. I will record in grams how much
each knot will hold up to, ten different times per knot. I decided to do this experiment
because I love to fish and I was curious to which knot held
the most strength. I have found out that the Improved Clinch Knot is the strongest
knot out there out of all of my knots.
